IN COMMEMORATION OF THE FEAST OF ST. BAKHITA

The Migrant and Refugee Unit, Archdiocese of Onitsha, commemorated the Feast of St. Josephine Bakhita by honoring her inspiring life story and raising awareness about human trafficking prevention in Anambra State. The event served as a platform to educate participants on the dangers of modern slavery and ways to protect vulnerable individuals.

During the commemoration, different forms of human trafficking were highlighted, including:

1. Sex Trafficking – The exploitation of women and girls for commercial sex through force, fraud, or coercion.
2. Forced Labor – The recruitment of individuals into labor under abusive conditions with little or no pay.
3. Child Trafficking and Exploitation – The illegal trade, forced labor, or sale of children for various exploitative purposes.
4. Debt Bondage – The entrapment of individuals in exploitative labor due to financial debts they can never repay.
5. Forced and Early Marriage – The coercion of young girls into marriage, often leading to a lifetime of servitude and abuse.

The commemoration concluded with prayers for victims of human trafficking, asking for justice, freedom, and healing for all those who suffer under oppression. The Migrant and Refugee Unit reaffirmed its commitment to combating human trafficking through awareness, advocacy, and community engagement.
