Micro-Credit: Community Empowerment Program, for sustainable development  focus on   empowering men and women living in rural and Urban Areas.

MICRO-CREDIT

PROMIC: Promoting Micro-Credit in rural areas for effective sustainable development.

Objective: Improve livelihood of the poor in rural and urban communities.

This project has empowered 5000 beneficiaries.

Who are the targeted group? PROMIC activities target widows, widowers, nursing mothers, elderly, youths, physically challenged who are pheasant farmers and petty traders.

HOW PROMIC MICRO-CREDIT WAS EASTERBLISHED: PROMIC Micro-credit was a scheme founded by OPEN HANDS FOUNDATION SWITZERLAND, which started in the year 2010. The aim of the scheme was to improve livelihood of the poor and marginalized through access to loans to boast petty trading business and agriculture. This project is done in riverine communities which include; Umuoba-Anam, Atani, , Ogbakuba, Umunankwo, Mmiata-Anam, Ochuche,Aguleri, Umueri, Anaku, Ogwu-ekpele, Nnado,Umueze-Anam, Umudaora-Anam, Ifete-Anam, Nteje, Okuwuzu. Omor, Nzam.

There are five (5) PROMIC projects: PROMIC 1, PROMIC 2, PROMIC AGRIC CADOMIC 1 and CADOMIC 2.

CADOMICS means Catholic Archdiocesan Micro-Credit Scheme.

CADOMIC 1 is Micro-Credit scheme supported by His Grace Most Rev. Valerian Maduka Okeke the Archbishop of Onitsha.

CADOMICS 2 is part of the Micro-Credit supported by Stella Oduah Foundation

 

                                  PROMIC PROCEDURAL ACTIVITIES

  • Information Meeting: This is the first stage of the activity. It is done to educate the beneficiaries on how MICRO-CREDIT scheme is being done. Equally, training on financial management, record keeping, saving culture as well as accounting is taught to build the capacity of the beneficiaries. Afterwards is the screening of qualify participants in which filling of forms follows after the training.
  • Loan Disbursement: This process involves issuing out the loan to the qualified beneficiaries in their respective localities, in which they start repayment by the following month for petty traders while Agric repayment stats after six (6) months duration.
  • Review Meeting: This is done within the span of the loan given out to assist the beneficiaries solve any arising problem that may hinder the repayment as when due.
  • Loan Payment: This Involves the repayment of the loan which is done on monthly intervals for petty traders while Agric is after six (6) months durations.
  • Monitoring: The project officer do pay monitoring visit to their farm land, place of business in which they are encouraged and given advice where necessary.
  • Cash and Bank Books Analysis: The cash book is use for daily transaction expenses incurred while the bank book is use in recording daily transaction from bank. At the end of each month, bank statement is given which assist in balancing the Financial and Activity Reports.
  • Financial and Activity Report: The financial and activity report take care of all the activities carried out recording the impacts, success stories, challenges, and way forward.
  • Cumulative Balance: This help in tracking errors arising from the Financial and Activity reports with the use of M.S Excel sheet.
  • Recording and Documentation: These involve use of cash book, ledger, and membership card for documentation and data collection for future referencing.
  • Reporting to Regional Office: As the partnership rule applies reports are quarterly send to Regional Office for onward reporting to the donors.

Other Strategic Activities

  1. Training on saving and financial management for poverty alleviation.
  2. Supporting youths for entrepreneurial, technical and vocational training.
  3. Linking farmers to cooperatives/ Ministry of Agriculture
  4. Training on women and girls rights.
