In its bid to suppress youth wastefulness that has exposed them to illicit activities, JDPC Onitsha on May 13, collaborated with Centre for Orientation, Discovery and Empowerment (DeCODE) on sensitization against drug abuse, rape, terrorism, cultism, prostitution and other criminalities that negate their development. Based on intelligence gathered within Onitsha by security agencies, it was discovered that most of the people who commit crime are usually under drug influence. This posed serious concern to the partners who organized a programme with the theme – Supporting Teenagers Against Negative Decision (STAND) Project.
The aware raising programme, which was held at Tourist Home, Inland town, was facilitated by Cynthia Enweonwu of DeCODE with technical support by Chuka Okafor of JDPC Onitsha. The guest speaker, Mrs Amaka Ekwealor from NDLEA, Onitsha held interactive session with pictorial evidence with the youth on dangers of drug abuse to youth
development. Other speakers included Barr Nonso Isiugo Arinze, Nonso Anene, Onyinye Jane Achukwu Onuoha, Christopher Tosin Dosu of NDLEA Nnewi. Over 30 persons participated in the one day sensitization.
