On Saturday, November 1, 2025, the Justice, Development and Peace/Caritas (JDPC) Onitsha Archdiocese hosted a critical capacity-building seminar at St. Mary’s Parish, Inland Town, Onitsha. The strategic session brought together staff and key volunteers to deepen their understanding of the organization’s foundational mandate, providing essential preparation for their role in monitoring the upcoming Anambra State Gubernatorial Election scheduled for November 8, 2025. Key Highlights of the Seminar: 1. The 7 Thematic Areas of JDPC Interventions: The seminar utilized an integrated approach, with JDPC staff members leading sessions dedicated to reviewing and reinforcing the seven core thematic areas that guide the organization's work across the Archdiocese. This segment ensures institutional alignment, guaranteeing that the developmental and advocacy projects remain cohesive and effective. Topics covered included social justice, humanitarian response, and community development. .2 Leadership Focus: Electoral Integrity and Safeguarding: The pivotal session of the day was delivered by the Director of JDPC Onitsha, Rev. Fr. Edwin Udoye. His powerful presentation provided strategic guidance focused on high-priority areas leading up to the polls: • Election Observation: Outlining the ethical and practical framework for impartial and credible monitoring on Election Day. • Voter’s Sensitization: Highlighting the crucial role of educating the electorate to ensure informed and non-violent participation. • Safeguarding: Emphasizing the importance of safety protocols and promoting an environment free from abuse for all participants and observers. 3. Strategic Mobilization of Election Monitors: A major output of the seminar was the successful mobilization and administrative registration of qualified Election Monitors across all regions under the Onitsha Archdiocesan jurisdiction. This proactive step ensures that JDPC will have a robust and well-trained team on the ground, capable of providing widespread coverage and objective reporting for the gubernatorial election.
