ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

JDPC Onitsha in pursuant of her values and set out objectives laboured assiduously to sustain and implement five projects under its thematic unit, Economic and Social Justice as a means for poverty alleviation, economic empowerment and sustainable improved livelihood support.

CADOMICS 

The Project under review in 2020 recorded activities such as information meetings, loan disbursement, loan repayment and monitoring visits to her various beneficiaries in riverine and hard to reach communities. Information meeting were held with Orumbanasa communities which comprises of Odomagwu,Odeh,Igbokenyi and Nzam, also Umumbo in Ayamelum. The groups are St Stephen Odomagwu,St Mary Nzam, Christ the King Odeh, St Michael Igbokenyi, SS Peter & Paul Umumbo the meeting held was to educate them (beneficiaries) on Micro – Credit Scheme modus operandi, financial management and savings culture.

 

The Project empowered rural peasant farmers with loans in turn of 8million who engage in yam, cassava and rice production. St Stephen Odomagwu, 40 beneficiaries were empowered (28 men and 12 women), St Mary Nzam, 20 beneficiaries were empowered (16 men and 4 women),Christ the King Odeh, 40 beneficiaries were empowered (27 men and 13 women),SS Peter and Paul Umumbo, 36 beneficiaries were empowered (19 men and 17 women) and St Michael igbokenyi, 20 beneficiaries were also empowered(13 men and 11 women) have all benefited the loan scheme process is presently still ongoing.

A large number of beneficiaries have benefited from it Agricultural loan scheme which have gone a long way in alleviating poverty and improving their means of livelihoods which justifies one of the organizational (JDPC) thematic area which falls under the umbrella of Economic and Social Justice.

The Project offers them better overall loan repayment interest rate  compare to middle men within their various communities who charges high  as much as 100%  and mainstream banks as well.
